Overwhelming support turns inaugural Give Day into an undeniable success

VALLEJO, Calif. – Cal Maritime Athletics recently held its inaugural Give Day — an opportunity for the community to support the department, or any of its 15 intercollegiate athletic programs, and enhance cadet-athletes' undergraduate experience. Due to the efforts of donors who participated throughout this day-long event, which took place on April 4, Athletics fundraised $23,078, a total that turned Give Day into an undeniable success by surpassing its goal of $15,000.

"I am humbled by the overwhelming amount of support and generosity this grassroots fundraising campaign received throughout Give Day," said Director of Athletics and Physical Education Karen Lee Yoder. "On behalf of everyone in the department, thank you for supporting Cal Maritime's cadet-athletes, its 15 teams, and helping the department finish with 153 percent of its target goal."

Offshore sailing finished this annual event with the highest donation total; men's basketball received the most gifts, which helped the program end the day with the second-highest total. Women's soccer, women's basketball and women's golf — the department's newest program that competed for the first time in school history last year, which coincided with Title IX's 50th anniversary — rounded out the top five.

Added Yoder: "Every gift will positively impact cadet-athletes' undergraduate experience and directly help our university ambassadors fulfill their academic and athletic potential."
