Erik Hanson Signs with Cal Maritime

California Maritime Academy men's basketball coach Bryan Rooney has announced the signing of Santa Rosa Junior College forward Erik Hanson for the 2012-2013 season.

The six foot five Hanson joins Cal Maritime after helping lead Santa Rosa to a Big 8 conference championship and to the third round of the California State Playoffs with a record of 26-6. As a starter for the Bear Cubs, Hanson shot 48% from the field and was the team's second leading rebounder. Erik also enjoyed a prestigious high school career as he earned the league's most valuable player while competing for Rincon Valley Christian and led the Eagles to a 25-4 record his senior year.

Excited about having Hanson joining the program Coach Rooney explained, "The bottom line is that Erik is a winner in every area. He won in high school and he has been a big part of two very good teams at Santa Rosa Junior College. He is a team first guy with hi-level athleticism who has a great future ahead of him on the basketball floor. Most importantly, he is a winner in the classroom. His 3.9+ grade point average speaks to the commitment he makes in the classroom and I am very excited about the opportunity he has in our Mechanical Engineering program. We are thrilled to be able to call Erik a Keelhauler!"

Hanson was equally excited as he stated, "I'm excited to become a member of the Cal Maritime Basketball Team and am determined to strive for excellence on the court and in the classroom. To work or fight, I am ready. Go Keelhaulers!"

Hanson joins Cal Maritime as the program comes off the best season in school history as the Keelhaulers set the school record for wins, won the Cal Pac Conference with an undefeated record, and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history. The 2012-2013 season begins as the Keelhaulers host Cal Maritime Invitational starting November 2nd.

Go Keelhaulers!
