St. Helena's Alec Fetzer Signs with the Keelhaulers

California Maritime Academy men's basketball coach Bryan Rooney has announced the signing of St. Helena High School guard Alec Fetzer for the 2012-2013 season.

The six foot four Fetzer joins Cal Maritime after completing one of the most successful seasons in the history of St. Helena High School. A three year varsity starter, Fetzer averaged 16.9 points per game, 4.9 rebounds per game, and an impressive 2.3 steals per game as a senior. Alec finished his career as only the 6th player in school history to score 1,000 points. While he was a prolific scorer in high school, Fetzer also proved he can defend at a high level as he was named the county's Defensive Player of the Year.

Head Coach Bryan Rooney explained his enthusiasm regarding Fetzer's commitment to the Keelhaulers, "Alec had a tremendous high school career and the most exciting part is he is only scratching the surface on how good he can be. He possess excellent size at the guard spot and has developed into a very good shooter. However, it is his work on the defensive end that leads me to believe he will excel in our program. We have been committed to recruiting high character student-athletes and as a person Alec is as good as it gets."

Fetzer explained his reason for his commitment, " I am excited to be signing with a program that was so successful last year, including going undefeated in conference play. I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to a team with the opportunity and ability to make a run at a National Championship. Go Keelhaulers!"

Fetzer joins Cal Maritime as the program comes off the best season in school history as the Keelhaulers set the school record for wins, won the Cal Pac Conference with an undefeated record, and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history. The 2012-2013 season begins as the Keelhaulers host Cal Maritime Invitational starting November 2nd.
