Roman Delgado Selected as Player of the Week
After leading the Keelhaulers to California Pacific Conference road victories last week, Cal Maritime's Roman Delgado has been selected as the conference's Player of the Week.
Delgado played a key role at both ends of the court last week as the Keelhaulers pulled off two road wins to stay in the hunt for the Cal Pac title. The Valencia, California native triggered the offense and the defense in both games, coming up with critical baskets and big defensive stops. Against Pacific Union, Delgado was on the court for all but seven minutes of an overtime win over the Pioneers. He totaled 12 points (including the go-ahead basket), 6 rebounds, and 6 assists, as well as a pair of steals in the come-from-behind win. The junior guard followed that performance up with an 8-point, 6-assist effort in a tight win at Menlo. For the week, Delgado averaged 10 points per game while totaling 12 assists to only one turnover for Cal Maritime, which won its fourth Cal Pac game in a row to improve to 4-1 (12-9 overall) and move into second place in the standings. For the season, Delgado is averaging 8.4 points per game, converting 45% of his 3-point attempts.
