California Maritime Academy men's basketball coach Bryan Rooney has announced the signing of Brayden Morse for the 2015-2016 season.
Brayden joins the Keelhaulers after transferring from New England College where he was named to the All-Rookie team in his one year with the Nor'Easters. During his freshman year, Brayden averaged 10.5 points per game and 6.6 rebounds a game. Morse graduated from Wilson High School in Long Beach where he averaged 16.6 points per game and 11.7 rebounds per game in addition to serving as a team captain.
Coach Rooney commented on the signing, "We are extremely excited that Brayden is going to be a Keelhauler. We love his versatility and ability to impact the game in multiple ways on both ends of the floor. He plays the game with an enthusiasm we value and he has a chance to have a tremendous three years in the program. More importantly, he will earn a degree in Marine Transportation that will be life changing and we are honored to be part of his journey at Cal Maritime."
As Coach Rooney mentioned, Brayden will be a student in Cal Maritime's competitive Marine Transportation program where he will have the opportunity to travel the world as part of the school's training cruises aboard the Training Ship Golden Bear.
"An important reason I chose Cal Maritime is because of the school's great academic program. As I go through my four years at Cal Maritime I look forward to excelling in my classes, which will lead to great job opportunities. Coach Rooney is a great coach and I know together, as a team, we are going to accomplish great things," stated Morse when asked about his decision.
Brayden joins a Cal Maritime basketball program fresh off its conference record fourth consecutive trip to the NAIA National Tournament after capturing the California Pacific Conference regular season and conference tournament championships. The Keelhaulers open up the 2015-2016 season as they host the Cal Maritime Invitational beginning on October 30th.
