Keelhaulers Get Defensive in Home Victory
The California Maritime Academy men's basketball team took an important step towards a fifth consecutive conference championship with a convincing 71-57 victory over the visiting Pioneers of the University of Antelope Valley. The win is the Keelhaulers' second straight as Cal Maritime has now won 10 of its last 11 contests.
Senior Zach Davis followed up his 20 point effort on Thursday against La Sierra with a dominating 21 point 10 rebound performance. Fellow seniors Roman Delgado (13 points) and Kameron Hoyt (10 points) joined Davis in double figures. Delgado also played an excellent floor game as he finished with 5 rebounds and 4 assists all while not committing a turnover. The Keelhaulers' nationally ranked defense continued to be a difference maker as Antelope Valley was held to 38% shooting from the floor. Cal Maritime also forced 21 Pioneer turnovers.
With the victory, Cal Maritime moves to 18-7 overall and 7-1 in California Pacific Conference play. The Keelhaulers are back in action next Thursday as the team travels to Pacific Union. Cal Maritime concludes the conference road schedule on Saturday when it takes on Simpson.
