Roman Delgado Selected as Player of the Week

After guiding his team to the California Pacific Conference regular-season title, Cal Maritime's Roman Delgado have been selected as the conference's Player of the Week for Feb. 22, 2016.

Needing a strong week to clinch the regular season title and the #1 seed in the conference tournament, the Keelhaulers had two difficult opponents in Embry-Riddle and UC Merced--both fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive--but Delgado stepped up to lead his team to a pair of convincing wins. In the 96-84 victory over the Eagles, the senior guard from Santa Clarita, Calif., erupted for a career-high 30 points, hitting 9-of-14 from the floor, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc, and all eight of his free throws. He also had three assists and four steals. Delgado followed that performance with a 13-point effort in the 71-46 win over the Bobcats. He made 5-of-8 from the floor (3-for-4 from the 3-point line) and provided another strong defensive effort.
