Roman Delgado Earns All American Honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the 2016 Division II Men's Basketball All-America Teams on Thursday. Senior guard Roman Delgado represented the Keelhaulers as an Honorable Mention selection.

Delgado (Santa Clarita, Ca.) was selected as an All-American for the first time in his career following his senior season in which he led Cal Maritime to one of the best seasons in school history. Delgado, who was also selected First Team All-Conference and named Most Valuable Player in the California Pacific Conference, finished his career with an impressive 15 points and 10 rebounds in a season ending loss to Warner University in the Sweet 16 at the NAIA National Tournament. Delgado's versatility was an important part of the Keelhaulers' success as he averaged nearly 13 points per game while shooting 50% from the field, 45% from the three point line, and 90% from the free throw line. He also routinely drew the toughest defensive assignment each game. An example of his defensive prowess was evident at the National Tournament as he held First Team All American Warren Hall to 1 of 6 shooting after Hall came into the game averaging nearly 25 points per game.

Roman will graduate in April with a degree in International Business

Head Coach Bryan Rooney commented on Delgado earning this award, "From the first time Roman came on to campus, he has consistently made those around him better. He has been on a constant pursuit to do whatever it takes to make the team better and we are thrilled that he is being recognized for a tremendous year."
