Keelhaulers Finish the Season in Top 20

After advancing to the Sweet 16 at the NAIA National Tournament for the second time in school history, Cal Maritime's men's basketball team has been ranked #20 in the final national poll. The Keelhaulers advanced to Branson, Missouri when they captured the program's fifth consecutive California Pacific Conference championship. Matched up with #2 ranked Union College in the round of 32, Cal Maritime secured a convincing 81-70 victory before suffering a tough defeat to Warner University in a hard fought battle.

The Keelhaulers were led throughout the year by a tremendous senior class. Roman Delgado, who was named the most valuable player of the Cal Pac Conference, earned All American honors. In addition, fellow seniors Kameron Hoyt and Zach Davis joined Delgado in earning All-Conference recognition with Hoyt being selected as the conference's Defensive Player of the Year. Clayton White and Alec Fetzer rounded out the team's starting five and both had tremendous post season runs in propelling the Keelhaulers to a tremendous season. Senior captains Blaine Shively and Adam Smith displayed excellent leadership throughout the season and will go down as two of the better leaders in the program's history.

As has been the case throughout the Keelhaulers' historic run the last five years, team defense has been a key ingredient to the team's success. Cal Maritime finished the season ranked in the top 10 in several key statistics including points allowed per game and rebounding defense. Despite losing seven very special seniors, the Keelhaulers return leading scorer Daniel Radford and should be bolstered by a quality recruiting class.
