Men's Basketball lands Moorpark's Elijah Holts

Men's Basketball announces MoorPark College Junior, Elijah Holts, will be coming to Cal Maritime for the upcoming 2018-2019 season, continuing the connection between the Raiders and the Keelhaulers.

Holts will look to add instant offense to Maritime as they lose two of their top scorers due to graduation. Last season as a Sophomore, Holts averaged 9.8 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game.

"I think I'll be able to lengthen out the floor and provide a lot of depth," said Holts. "From moving the ball, scoring, to the defensive end, whatever Coach Rooney needs me to do."

In his two seasons at Moorpark, Holts was a two-time Western State First Team All-Conference Player and a recipient of the John Keever Character of Champion Award, which is awarded to the athlete who portrays respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, as well as other "team leader" characteristics.

"We're really excited about Elijah with what he'll bring to our team both on the floor and in the locker room," Coach Rooney said. "He provides us some length defensively on the wing with the ability to guard multiple positions and a really good motor."

The Simi Valley, Calif. native is looking forward to this upcoming season, saying he's ready to leave it all on the table from here on out.

"I feel like a lot of it is mental," Holts added. "I say, hey why not? I look to get my teammates involved, spread the ball around and just have that aggressive mentality out there."

Coach Rooney also knows he'll have no problem fitting in to the program.

"Elijah is 100% our type of guy," Rooney said. "He is going to show up every day and work his tail off, he'll be a big-time teammate, and do anything that is asked of him. I feel like Elijah's best basketball is ahead of him and I'm elated that we get to be a part of it."

The Keelhaulers are looking to build upon a 17-12 season in Brendan Rooney's first as head coach, after taking over for his brother Bryan, and are looking to make their sixth appearance in the NAIA National Tournament.
