VALLEJO, Calif. – With the start of Cal Pac play, holidays and finals week quickly approaching, the inaugural weeks of December are busy one for everyone associated with the men's basketball program. Before the Keelhaulers completely shift their focus towards preparation for papers and exams, they will head to Angwin for Thursday night's 8 p.m. Cal Pac road game, the program's first of the season, before hosting William Jessup in Tuesday's 7:30 p.m. non-conference clash.

Thursday's tipoff inside Covered Wagon is slated for 8 p.m. — 30 minutes later than the Keelhaulers' usual 7:30 p.m. league start time since Pacific Union College is a Seventh-day Adventist learning community.

Entering this week's schedule, CSUM is one of three league teams that hold an undefeated league record, a standing it would like to preserve following this week's lone conference matchup.

Thanks to last week's success, senior forward Miles Pennington earned Cal Pac Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors on Monday. This well-deserved accolade was announced by conference officials following his season-high 23 points and seven rebounds in the Keelhaulers' conference opener against Saint Katherine, and his third career double-double when he finished with 13 points and 11 boards, both game highs, two days later vs. Westcliff.

After opening the season with seven straight losses, Pacific Union split last week's league games by defeating Westcliff at home last Thursday before falling to Saint Katherine two days later. The Pioneers opened league play on November 21 and lost that game to Simpson.

Following Thursday's meeting, the Pioneers will return to the road for their next seven contests.

Highlighted by last season's come-from-behind victory in overtime, Cal Maritime won four of the last five head-to-head games inside Covered Wagon and seven of the last eight overall following a sweep of all three played last season, a total that includes a designated non-conference tilt and last year's league series.

As was the case with Cal Maritime, William Jessup collected two wins throughout the inaugural week of league play by defeating GSAC foes Vanguard and Life Pacific at home. Following Saturday's home matchup vs. Menlo, the Warriors will head to Vallejo for the first of consecutive events involving Cal Pac squads.

William Jessup will host Simpson at home on December 29 before resuming league play at home the following week.

Even though the Warriors lead the all-time series 20-13, nine of CSUM's wins were earned on its home court.
