VALLEJO, Calif. – Following its brief holiday hiatus after hosting William Jessup before finals and Southern Oregon afterwards, men's basketball's three-game homestand will conclude on Wednesday, December 28, when the team returns to Cal Pac action inside PEAC Main Gym against UC Merced.
Tipoff against the Bobcats is set for 7:30 p.m. that night.
Once that league matchup concludes, Cal Maritime will head to Simpson on New Year's Eve for the first of six straight road games in a game that will begin at 6:30 p.m. on the Red Hawks' home court in Redding.
Throughout the inaugural weeks their Cal Pac schedule, the Keelhaulers swept its first league homestand with victories versus Saint Katherine and Westcliff and followed those results with a resounding win on the road at rival Pacific Union.
Tied for first place with Antelope Valley, since the two are the only teams who hold undefeated conference records, Cal Maritime knows it will face two tough tests in UC Merced and Simpson.
Two of the Cal Pac's three top rebounders will battle one another in the final home game of 2022; Cal Maritime's Justice Cole averages 8.2 boards per game and trails the Bobcats' Kingsley Obiorah by only 0.4 of a rpg. The pair rank third and second, respectively, behind Westcliff's Olisa Ngonandi and his 10.9 per-game figure.
Taking place on the last day of 2022, two of the league's most prolific scorers will face one another when CSUM visits the James M. Grant Center to square off against Simpson. The Red Hawks' Javonntie Jackson leads all players at 17.1 points per game, but the Keelhaulers' Miles Pennington is right behind him, tied for third averaging 16.1 ppg.
Joining Cole and Pennington among the league's top-ranked players is Braxton Adderly, who enters the upcoming set of games leading all conference players in three-point shooting with his .500 percentage.
The Bobcats will seek their first league road win of the season when it visits PEAC Main Gym on the 28th; the team is 1-4 outside of Merced this year and earned its lone road win on November 23 when it defeated Westmont by one point. Conversely, UCM is a perfect 7-0 at home this year.
Simpson's season is opposite of UC Merced's since four of its five wins were earned outside Redding. Entering its next set of games — SU will travel to William Jessup on the 29th before hosting the Keelhaulers two days later — the Red Hawks are 1-4 at home and 4-3 on the road.
