VALLEJO, Calif. – Victorious in six of its last eight games, Cal Maritime will look to extend its three-game win streak when all three Arizona-based Cal Pac Conference teams visit Vallejo throughout the upcoming weekend. A busy block of basketball will begin Thursday night against Embry-Riddle, continue the following day versus Benedictine Mesa and conclude on Sunday, after a well-deserved day off, when CSUM hosts Park Gilbert.

All three games will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. or 30 minutes following the conclusion of women's basketball's games against respective institutions, whichever is later.

Entering the week in fourth place, the league's hottest team will conclude a portion of its schedule that includes six games out of seven played inside PEAC Main Gym with three key events that will play a key role in Cal Maritime's postseason fate. Trailing third place Saint Katherine by one win, four teams are currently battling one another for the conference's final four seeds at next month's Cal Pac Championship since UC Merced and league-leader Antelope Valley sit two and four wins ahead of that group of four, respectively.

Occupying seventh-ninth place are Benedictine Mesa, Embry-Riddle and Park Gilbert, teams that are battling for one of those coveted five remaining spots since Antelope Valley already qualified for the Cal Pac Championship. Even though three weeks are left in the regular season, nearly every conference team has a shot to extend its season in Mesa, Arizona — site of this year's league playoffs.

Free throw shooting played a key role in recent games for Cal Maritime; its 519 attempts are the seventh-highest total in the country. In their three-point win at Embry-Riddle, two-point victory the very next game at La Sierra and recent matchups at UC Merced and at home against UC Santa Cruz, it was the Keelhaulers' success at the line that led to positive results on each occasion.

In last Saturday's rivalry game against Pacific Union, CSUM scored 27 points at the free throw line; its success turned a slim lead early in the second half into a blowout victory that saw men's basketball outscore its opponent by 30 after halftime.

This season has been an exciting one for Cal Maritime basketball fans who witnessed a young squad build chemistry and develop as a unit throughout a slate of exciting games that tested the poise and perseverance of a squad that includes six newcomers.

Through the Keelhaulers' first 20 games, 11 were decided by two-possession margin; of those 11, the margin of victory in six matchups were three points or less.

With the 2022-23 season entering its final weeks, CSUM's success in close games will ultimately determine the team's ability to punch its ticket to the Cal Pac Championship or end its year at home on Senior Night.
