Kelly’s career-high 23 points pace Keelhaulers at Westcliff

IRVINE, Calif. – One week after scoring a career-high 23 points at home against Embry-Riddle, Shawn Kelly matched that total when Cal Maritime opened its final road trip of the season in Thursday night's Cal Pac Conference matchup at Westcliff.

The junior forward led all players in scoring by shooting 9-for-12 from the floor, including one three-pointer, and 4-for-5 from the line to lead a contingent of three Keelhaulers who posted double-digit totals. Including Kelly, Miles Pennington added 14 points and Everett Perrot ended one rebound shy of a double-double by finishing with 12 points and a team-high nine boards.

Cal Maritime connected on half of its attempts from the floor by canning 26 of 46 attempts (.565 pct), compared to the host Warriors' .369 shooting clip, but one stat allowed Westcliff to split the season series, and snap the Keelhaulers' six-game win streak, since it forced CSUM to commit 17 turnovers, which led to 17 points in a game WU won, 65-60.

Men's basketball will have a chance to bounce back into the win column when it faces Saint Katherine in Saturday's 4 p.m. league tilt. The Keelhaulers will enter their final road game of the year with an overall record of 12-12 and 11-6 mark against conference competition.

Westcliff will continue its weekend with respective records of 10-8 and 9-6.
