VALLEJO, Calif. – For the second time in as many seasons, Cal Maritime will square off against UC Merced in the opening round of the Cal Pac Men's Basketball Championship when these teams meet in Mesa, Arizona, for Saturday's 12 p.m. PT / 1 p.m. MT tournament opener.

These teams split this season's series, picking up a win on each other's home court.

Victorious in three of the last four head-to-head meetings, the Keelhaulers seek a similar result in this year's postseason matchup with the winner advancing to Monday's 5 p.m. PT / 6 p.m. MT semifinal against top-seeded Antelope Valley, who earned one of the Cal Pac's two automatic bids to the NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship by willing the league's regular season title.

The conference's other automatic bid will go to the winner of the Cal Pac's postseason tournament if someone other an Antelope Valley wins this event. If the Pioneers finish as tournament champions, their opponent in Tuesday's Championship Game will advance to the national playoffs.

The opposite half of the Cal Pac Championship's bracket includes No. 3 Westcliff facing No. 6 Simpson in Saturday's other Opening Round matchup; the winner will square off against No. 2 Saint Katherine in Monday's semifinal matchup.

Cal Maritime's playoff run will begin Saturday afternoon against a UC Merced team that set a program record by winning its 19th game of the season in last weekend's Senior Night home OT game versus Simpson. As was the case with the Bobcats, the Keelhaulers will head to Arizona with momentum after winning their Senior Night game against La Sierra, picking up the team's seventh victory in the last 10 played.

UC Merced's season ended with wins in seven of its final nine games.
