Taylor, Kelly and Perrot lead Keelhaulers at Menlo

ATHERTON, Calif. – Lunden Taylor led all Keelhaulers with 18 points by hitting half of his 10 shots from the floor and seven shots from the free throw line, Shawn Kelly hit 6 of 11 shots and scored 14 points, and Everett Perrot also finished 5-for-10 overall and was singlehandedly responsible for one-third of his team's rebounds in Thursday's non-conference game from Haynes-Prim Pavilion in Atherton, California.

During Cal Maritime's season opener, Menlo earned 11 more trips to the stripe compared to the Keelhaulers and scored 11 more points compared to their counterparts from Vallejo, which helped the Oaks pull away in the second half and turn their three-point lead into an 81-63 victory.

In the inaugural game of the season for both teams, neither enjoyed success from distance: Cal Maritime only connected on four shots from three, one more than Menlo.

In addition to the Oaks plus-11 differential at the line, they also finished with 12 more second chance points than the Keelhaulers; combined those two factors were the difference between victory and defeat for a CSUM squad that will face a near-week-long hiatus until it returns to action.

Cal Maritime's season-opening three game road swing will continue on Thursday, November 2, when it heads to Alaska Anchorage for back-to-back games against the Seawolves in as many days.

The Keelhaulers will enter that trip with a 0-1 overall record and look to split the season series against the Oaks when they visit Vallejo on November 16.

Menlo will continue its season at 1-0.
