VALLEJO, Calif. — It's been a while since Cal Maritime competed on its home court since basketball fans last cheered for the Keelhaulers on December 6. Now that finals, the institution's holiday break, preparation for and execution of U.S. Coast Guard exams are now over, men's basketball will face a home-heavy few weeks of the season, starting with a pair of games against Arizona-based Cal Pac teams.

Thursday's 7:30 p.m. matchup will feature CSUM and Benedictine Mesa, a team that dropped four of its last six games, three of the last four played in Vallejo and five of the last eight head-to-head matchups.

The Redhawks' Northern California trip will cap a portion of their schedule that includes six of eight games played on the road; the return game, slated for February 24 in Mesa, Arizona, is the final game of the regular season for both teams.

Park Gilbert also experienced its fair share of challenges in recent weeks by losing six of the last seven played. Last Thursday's victory at Simpson snapped a five-game skid and marked the Buccaneers' first positive result against a Cal Pac opponent since December 5 when they defeated Embry-Riddle at home.

Cal Maritime leads the all-time series against Park Gilbert, 3-0, and seeks its third head-to-head win on its home floor this weekend.

Following that matchup against the Buccaneers, the Keelhaulers will open the second half of Cal Pac action at home against Simpson on January 25 before heading to UC Merced two days later in the first of another three games on the road.

However, another three-game homestand will commence on February 8 once the team returns from Southern California after facing Saint Katherine (Feb. 1) and Westcliff (Feb. 3) on their home courts.
