LANCASTER, Calif. – As has been the case in recent weeks, Lucky Hampton fueled Cal Maritime's offense in Saturday's Cal Pac Conference game at Pioneer Event Center by leading the team with 17 points on 6 of 13 shooting overall.
For the last four games, the junior guard is averaging 21.8 points per game.
DeAndre Minor continued his consistent play by scoring 11 off the bench against the Pioneers and Illyaas Rafiq's three-point shooting helped him post 10 points (a total that includes one free throw made).
In addition to a strong start, Antelope Valley enjoyed its home-court advantage throughout the first half by shooting 22-for-35 overall (63 pct.) and 6-for-14 from three (43 pct) before halftime to build a 26-point lead before halftime.
When UAV returned to Earth in the second half, it only outscored CSUM by one in that 20-minute block of action, but the way the Pioneers started helped them defeat the Keelhaulers, 95-68, in head coach Colin Johnson's return to his former home.
Johnson served as an assistant coach for Antelope Valley last season, one that saw it win the Cal Pac's regular season champion and participate in the 2023 NAIA Men's Basketball Championship.
Saturday's contest was the first of a season-ending three-game road swing, one that continues on Thursday at Park Gilbert and in next Saturday's season finale at Benedictine Mesa.
