Illyaas Rafiq named Cal Pac Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week

CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. - By averaging a team-high 17.5 points per game last week, Illyaas Rafiq helped Cal Maritime sweep all three games played, which led to Cal Pac Conference officials naming his as its Offensive Player of the Week.

The Yuba City native shot .375 from three, .440 overall and connected on all seven free throws attempted throughout the week, scored a game-high 19 points and a team-high 16 points in Cal Maritime's two official games at home vs. Stanton and on the road against West Coast Baptist.

Even though the third game played was an exhibition, Rafiq helped the Keelhaulers earn a hard-fought victory at Jessup, a Division-II program — their first against the Warriors on their home floor since January 2, 2015.

Rafiq and his teammates are focused on their end-of-semester papers and finals right now until Mount Vernon Nazarene (OH) visits PEAC Main Gym Saturday afternoon for CSUM's final home game of 2024. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
