Illyaas Rafiq earns NAIA Winter Daktronics Scholar-Athlete distinction

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Senior guard Illyaas Rafiq earned NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete honors on Wednesday when officials from the national office released their list of winter award recipients on Wednesday.

This is the first time Rafiq earned Scholar-Athlete honors at Cal Maritime; he is the 21st Keelhauler in the program's recorded history to receive this national award.

To qualify as a Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete, students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, appear on the eligibility certificate for their sport, and attend their institution for at least one full year.

This honor recognizes student-athletes in each of the winter sports sponsored by the NAIA who excelled academically: men's basketball, women's basketball, men's bowling, women's bowling, competitive cheer, competitive dance, men's swimming and diving, women's swimming and diving, men's wrestling and women's wrestling.
