VALLEJO, Calif. – For the second time this season, Cal Maritime will compete in a road game in Southern California, this weekend's event will take it to former Cal Pac Conference institution La Sierra. Tipoff inside Alumni Pavilion is set for 3 p.m.
La Sierra is now a member of the Golden State Athletic Conference, a move that took effect this past July.
This is the second game within a 72-hour timespan for the Golden Eagles against Cal Pac opposition as they will travel to Westcliff for Friday night's season opener since their first three games played — at West Coast Baptist, at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and at UC Riverside — were ether a scrimmage or exhibition.
Cal Maritime leads the all-time series. 19-4, a record that includes victories in eight of the 11 games played in Riverside. In the Keelhaulers' last head-to-head meeting, LSU left Vallejo with a loss. That result snapped the Golden Eagles' three-game win streak; before that La Sierra win streak, Cal Maritime won the preceding 17 in a row.
Victorious in their first two games, the Keelhaulers are focused on picking up another dub in Southern California after opening the season on October 25 at Life Pacific, located in San Dimas. With the right result, men's basketball will open the season 3-0 for the first time since the 2017-18 campaign.
This is the first of seven games scheduled throughout the month of November with each one taking place on the road. When combined with the first game in December, men's basketball will play its next eight game in a row outside of Vallejo since the team's next, and second home game of the season, is on December 17.
The Keelhaulers hope the end of the week, one that features this lone game in Riverside, will end how it started, on a positive note, since Jordan Morency and Nick Stone received the first Cal Pac Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards of the season.
This was the first sweep of the league's weekly awards in program history.
