VALLEJO, Calif. – After competing in a week full of exhibition games, Cal Maritime will compete in an official game for the first time since November 22 when it returns to Redding, California, to face the Simpson Red Hawks in a designated non-conference contest between Cal Pac Conference programs.
November 21 and 22 marked the Keelhaulers' last pair of countable games which, coincidentally, also took place in Simpson's home court. After action concludes Thursday night, these teams will not face one another until January 21, 2026, when Cal Maritime returns to the Red Hawks' home for this season's Cal Pac road matchup.
The return game, and final meeting between Simpson and Cal Maritime will take place inside PEAC Main Gym on February 21 in each team's season finale.
Thursday's game is the last of eight games in a row played outside of Vallejo – the program's longest post-COVID road swing.
Even though Simpson leads the all-time series 11-7, four of the Keelhaulers' victories (including last year's trip) were won on the Red Hawks' home floor.
Keep an eye on the game within the game in the paint because this matchup features three of the league's top rebounders. Nobody possesses a higher rebounds per game average than Lawrence Long, his 9.2 average is three full boards higher than Aidan Rolfs' 6.0 rpg and nearly four more than Nian Allen's 5.3 rpg figures.
Ivan Soto leads the Cal Pac in three-point shooting by hitting 54.5 percent of his attempts; Dylan Harms completes the league's list of long-range shooters by hitting half of his shots so far this season.
These teams possess players who bookend another one of the league's top-five major statistical categories: Allen leads all players in scoring, averaging 20.6 points per game with Nick Stone averaging 15.2 ppg. Ranked fourth, right ahead of Stone, is Timothy Parker (16.9 ppg).
After a block of action where it suffered four losses in a row, Simpson rebounded in recent weeks to win two of its last three games played. After splitting their games played during that November 21 weekend, the Red Hawks entered the Thanksgiving break by defeating Chico State, on its home court, in last Wednesday's exhibition contest.
That was the last time Simpson competed; the Keelhaulers' last game was an exhibition that took place at Stanislaus State last Saturday.
