Cal Maritime Crew Closes Out Spring 2014 Campaign

The Cal Maritime crew team wrapped up its spring 2014 campaign with a strong showing at the WIRA championships in Sacramento this past weekend. With the end of the spring semester and the departure of the academy's training ship on the same weekend, the crew team was only able to send one boat, a men's pair, to the championship regatta, but they represented the program well. The pair, consisting of Serge Balian at stroke seat and Sean Abbott at bow seat, overcame mechanical issues in their heat to finish third and advance to the petite finals. In the petite finals, with the issues resolved, they powered to victory over San Diego State, Oregon, Arizona State, UC Santa Barbara, and USC.

It was a strong finish to a solid year for the crew team which had at least one boat finish first or second in every regatta, save one, in both the fall and spring seasons. Many thanks to those who contributed to the Keelhaulers' successes, especially those families, friends and alumni who supported the team at regattas and through donations.
