Crew Teams host races at home in Vallejo
The Keelhaulers Crew Teams got a chance to race in their own back yard this past weekend with the Men's Team finishing first in two of four races and the Women's Team seeing their first action of the spring as well.
The Cal Maritime Crew Team hosted Sonoma State and Chico State on the Mare Island Straits in Vallejo this past Saturday for a 2,000-meter race. Current was in the direction of the races for the first three races, which made for some fast racing early on.
In addition, there were some occasional swells from other craft on the water, but overall it was a good day of racing on a beautiful, sunny, 72-degree day. The Keelhaulers came away with two wins, in the men's varsity eight and varsity four, and strong finishes in their other two races.
Unfortunately, the Keelhaulers' men's novice eight lost their skeg midway through the race, resulting in a stoppage of that race to avoid a collision with the other crews. The Women's Team got their first race of the spring in as well and finished fourth in the Women's Varsity 4 as Chico split their team into two boats.
UP NEXT: The crew teams will head to Dexter, Ore. for the Covered Bridge Regatta on April 6.
