Cal Maritime secures second three times throughout President’s Cup

GOLD RIVER, Calif. – Cal Maritime enjoyed a strong and consistent performance at the Sacramento State Aquatics Center, site of last weekend's President's Cup regatta and upcoming Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship, by finishing second in three races.

The Keelhaulers' morning started on a positive note when Colby Allen, Ethan Azevedo, Johnny Ferguson, Nathan Nakadate, Max Southworth, Ty Simpson-Kane (coxswain). William Souza, Joshua Thomas and Collin Wojahn nearly snatched first place from Sacramento State In the Novice 8. Unfortunately for CSUM, the regatta's hosts barely edged CSUM by crossing the line one second earlier.

Momentum created from that race carried over to the next set of competitions with Southworth and Morgan Vincent Kiehn capturing third in the Mixed 2x.

Shortly thereafter, Cal Maritime collected another pair of second-place results, thanks to Azevedo, Ferguson, Thomas, Simpson-Kane (cox) and Souza in the Men's 4+ followed by Southworth and Wojahn's performance in the Men's 2x.

Off next week, the Keelhaulers will return to the Sacramento State Aquatics Center on April 27 to compete in the two-day season-ending WIRA Championship.
