VALLEJO, Calif. – Cal Maritime will compete in its inaugural tournament of 2021 when it heads to Prescott, Arizona, for the Embry-Riddle Co-ed Invitational.

"Since new players are learning how to compete and succeed at this level, I am looking for everyone to play their best and have the team finish among the top half of the field," said head coach Sam Pecota regarding his expectations for this weekend. "My goal for the season is for the team to compete for a Cal Pac championship when we head to Redding in April."

Following Saturday's practice round, competition at the three-day, 72-hole tournament will commence at 8 a.m. the following day.

Said Ricky Castillo, captain of the men's golf team, "We feel very excited to get on the road and represent Cal Maritime in a different state. We're honored to do that. Not a lot of people know about our school so when they hear about it, it's always very rewarding."

Castillo added, "Not everyone knows about the Cal Maritime golf team. To be able to stand out in the front along with the other teams, get our name out there and represent is a phenomenal opportunity."
