Cal Maritime ends return trip to Arizona with ninth-place finish
PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Returning to the desert for the second time in as many days — men's golf competed at the OUAZ Sterling Grove Shootout in Surprise, Arizona, in late February — Cal Maritime ended the abridged Embry-Riddle Co-Ed Spring Invitational in ninth place.
Since Sunday's opening round was cancelled due to snowy conditions on Antelope Hills' South Course, two 18-hole rounds took place on consecutive days.
By following yesterday's 1-under 71 with a 3-under 69 on the par 72, 7,014-yard setup at Antelope Hills South Course, James McNally earned a top-10 finish by posting a 4-under 140 for the tournament, which placed him ninth with a pair of golfers from Embry-Riddle, the host school.
Jake Banich ended his week tied for 47th with Brennan White finishing 10 places behind his teammate.
Completing Cal Maritime's contingent were Nate Metcalf, Ryan Bean, and Ricky Castillo who finished 60th, 61st and 63rd, respectively.
Embry-Riddle took home individuals honors, thanks to Trevor Lewis' 10-under (134) result; Ottawa University swept the tournament's team championships — the women won their half of the tournament by three strokes — thanks to its 17-shot cushion over Benedictine-Mesa and Embry-Riddle, who tied for second.
