McNally finishes tied for seventh, Keelhaulers secure sixth place at Got Soule Golf Classic
OJAI, Calif. – Led by sophomore James McNally who finished the 36-hole Got Soule Golf Classic, hosted by Westmont College, tied for seventh with a 1-over 145, Cal Maritime men's golf finished its weekend in Ojai, California, sixth overall with a team score of 52-over (628).
After shooting 4-over on the 6,549-yard course on Monday, McNally climbed five spots up the player leaderboard on Tuesday by posting a 69 — the second-lowest individual score on the tournament's final day.
Following four consecutive pars, he birdied three of the next four holes. McNally's back nine started with par on the first four holes; another par was sandwiched between his final pair of birdies.
Junior Jake Banich enjoyed the biggest jump on the individual leaderboard: He started Tuesday's round in 31st place and finished tied for 18th overall, at 10-over (154), after shooting par (72) in his final trip around Soule Park Golf Course.
Tyler Dendiu tied for 31st with an 18-over 162, Brennan White finished 34th at 23-over (167) and Evan Osorio completed Cal Maritime's lineup by ending the tournament in 37th by posting a 53-over 197.
James Morris competed as an individual, shot 46-over (190) and ended his weekend in Southern California in 36th place.
As the only team to break par on Tuesday, thanks to its combined 5-under team score, the University of Calgary captured the team title with a 5-over 581. Jacob Flogstad from Menlo College won the individual championship by shooting 5-under on Tuesday and 3-under (141) for the tournament.
Cal Maritime will return to action on Monday, April 17, in the opening round of the three-day Cal Pac Men's Golf Championship, hosted by Soka, at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
