Keelhaulers return to action, record 41-15 victory vs. Chico State

VALLEJO, Calif. – Cal Maritime scored early, and often, throughout Saturday's game at Bodnar Field, took an early 3-0 lead when Jonah Wolfe converted a penalty kick, and extended its lead as the afternoon progressed to defeat Chico State, 41-15, in the team's first game of 2022.

Including results from the fall season, the Keelhaulers now hold a three-game win streak, improve to 4-2 for the 2021-22 campaign and led the entire game for the third time in a row.

Following Wolfe's kick, Jerry McLarnon powered his way to another five points, followed by Andrew Cavinta's run seven minutes later to extend Cal Maritime's lead to 15-0, following Wolfe's conversion.

Cavinta collected a pass, turned the corner, and sprinted his way down the far sideline, out-running numerous Wildcats in the process to give his team a sizable lead with 15-plus minutes left until halftime.

Chico State's first highlight of the day took place with just under eight minutes left in the opening half, but the Keelhaulers responded by scoring 19 unanswered points, starting with Wolfe's try and kick with just under five minutes left in the opening half.

Once action resumed, Cal Maritime continued to dominate play on the field and the scoreboard off it, thanks to a pair of tries by Jacob Jenkins, which put the game out of reach for Chico State with the Keelhaulers leading by 27, with half of the second half still left to play.

Even though Chico State scored eight straight points late, Wilson Urkov and Wolfe recorded the final points of the afternoon when he intercepted a Wildcat pass, sprinted untouched across two-thirds of the field to record the final try of the game, by either team, with 23 seconds left to play.
