Rugby announces 15s schedule

Cal Maritime Rugby — 2023 Schedule

VALLEJO, Calif. –
Six events at Bodnar Field highlight rugby's upcoming 2023 slate, as announced by head coach Steve Hiatt on Thursday.

A three-game homestand starts September 23 when the Keelhaulers host its lone scrimmage of the season against an opponent that was not determined at the time of this announcement.

Following that exhibition contest, San Francisco State (Sept. 30) will provide the final tune-up for the team's Pacific Western Conference opener against Cal State Monterey Bay (Oct. 7).

Conference play will continue at Pacific (Oct. 14), before rugby heads to Southern California for a pair of games against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Oct. 21), one of the top programs in the nation, and Pepperdine (Oct. 22) before returning home.

Rugby's four-game road swing will conclude at Sonoma State (Oct. 28) the first of three matchups against league opponents; the team's final Pac West games will take place at home versus Cal Poly Humboldt (Nov. 4) and San Francisco (Nov. 9).

If the Keelhaulers qualify, postseason play commenced the following Friday at the Pacific Western Conference Regional Championship, the league's season-ending event (Nov. 17-19) featuring its top four teams. The winner of this tournament will qualify for the National Collegiate Rugby National Championship, taking place from December 8-10 in Houston at AVEVA Stadium, the home of Major League Rugby's Houston Sabercats.

The program's annual Alumni Game is slated for December 2 at Bodnar Field.
