William Jessup Warriors Deflect Maritime Attack

Warriors Deflect Maritime

William Jessup scored twice in each half to hand Cal Maritime a fourth consecutive loss. The Warriors clearly started the stronger side and scored a pair of goals within the first 15 minutes of play.

After some confusion in the Maritime defense, goalie Kyle Carpenter mistimed a tackle bringing down a Warrior player just outside the box which resulted in a red card.

Down to ten men, the Keelhaulers were able to get back into the game when Collin McCarthy was brought down in the penalty area. David Tucker was able to convert from the penalty spot kick which cut the Warrior lead to one.

After the break, it did not take William Jessup long to capitalize on the man advantage scoring two more goals just ten minutes after the restart.

Maritime's defense would not be breached again however as Junior Greg Bennett, making his first start of the season, led the defense, denying the Warriors further scoring opportunities.

With nothing to lose, Maritime continued to attack and their efforts paid off when a cross from George Dick found Sophomore Marshall Fice unmarked 10 yards out. Fice struck the volley into the left hand corner of the net for a brilliant finish.

The Keelhaulers showed lots of enthusiasm and continued to press forward with a gritty performance from the entire squad.

Cal Maritime plays again at home against Simpson this Saturday at 3:00 PM
