Keelhaulers Drop Soccer Season Opener

Aliso Viejo, Calif -- Cal Maritime was shutout on the road at Soka University to start the 2017 campaign.

The Keelhaulers (0-1, 0-1) fell behind 1-0 when Johannes Hielscher scored by heading a ball into the the low-right corner of the net just under nine minutes into the contest. Yauri De Groot would score less than three minutes later to make it 2-0 Soka University (4-2,1-1). The Lions would score six more unanswered goals, with Hielscher, De Groot, Jaroslav Zapleta each recording two goals.

The Keelhaulers Jacob Lassila would threaten to get the Keelhaulers on the board twice, but coudn't quite put one through. Hielscher finished the scoring with a goal in the 61st minute to make the final score 9-0.

The Keelhaulers will play their second game of the season at La Sierra University in Riverside, Calif. on Saturday September, 23. That game is slated to start at 8 p.m.
