VALLEJO, Calif. — After wrapping up its four-game road swing with Friday's 7:30 p.m. game at UC Merced, Cal Maritime will compete at Bodnar Field for the first time in nearly three weeks when Sierra Nevada visits Vallejo for a 1:30 p.m. Cal Pac Conference game.
Coming off its longest road trip of the season when they visited Southern California for a pair of non-conference matchups, the Keelhaulers will face Sierra Nevada in the first of consecutive home events; this brief two-game homestand concludes on Oct. 29 against Simpson.
Before Cal Maritime faces the Eagles in this year's series finale — Sierra Nevada took the opening head-to-head meeting on Oct. 8 — it will head to UC Merced to face a team receiving votes in this week's NAIA's national poll after collecting wins in three of its last four played.
Even through UC Merced is 7-3 overall this season, Friday's game is just the fourth home event of the season for the Bobcats, features Cal Maritime netminder Nathan Witte, the league's leader in saves with 56, and Andres Lua who ranks second among all league players with 43 shots.
Sierra Nevada has not won a road game this year, and Cal Maritime would like to keep it that way following Sunday's home game. Following their inaugural meeting of 2021, which took place in Tahoe Park on October 8, the Eagles lost three straight when they hosted Simpson, visited Park University and Embry-Riddle throughout the ensuing weeks.
