VALLEJO, Calif. – Before the start of Sunday's home game against UC Merced, Cal Maritime honored its special guests from Napa United and their five member senior class, a group comprised by Simon Barber, Quinton Cacal, Colin Powers, Frenchie Rousson and Kenny Shin making the final appearance in their respective careers at Bodnar Field.
Even though UC Merced scored their first goals throughout the opening half, the Keelhaulers' defense neutralized numerous Bobcat opportunities throughout the final 45 minutes of action, and saw Luka Bilaver nearly beat the opposing goalkeeper far post.
Unfortunately for Cal Maritime, their opponent's early offense led to a 5-0 result that saw the Keelhaulers fall to 0-10-1 overall and 0-7 against Cal Pac teams. With its win, UC Merced remains atop the division standings at 11-4 and 7-1.
The Keelhaulers' senior class, and their teammates, will compete on their home turf for the final time in 2021 when Sierra Nevada visits Bodnar Field for a 5 p.m. league matchup on Tuesday. Originally scheduled for October 24, that game was postponed when severe thunderstorms passed through Northern California.
