2022 Rules Update Regarding Overtime
Starting this season, if the score is tied at the end of regulation, the game is officially considered a draw. Overtime, and double overtime (if needed), will only take place during postseason competition.
VALLEJO, Calif. – Cal Maritime will open the season with a pair of games in Oregon, which includes stops at Multnomah and Warner Pacific, as part of the program's inaugural road trip to the state. The Keelhaulers' 2022 season will commence on Friday with its 2 p.m. season opener against the Lions before concluding the following day with a 7:30 p.m. tilt versus the Knights.
Links to follow the action, for each game, were not available at the time of this release; if provided by either school prior to respective kickoffs, men's soccer fans can access them by visiting the Athletics Department Facebook or Twitter accounts.
Unlike Cal Maritime, a team competing in its first game of the season, Multnomah competed in a pair of scrimmages and four official games — the last took place on Wednesday when Puget Sound defeated the Lions, 1-0, on its home turf.
Prior to that matchup, MU started the season with three victories in a row against Park University Gilbert in its season/home opener (6-2 final score), Linfield and George Fox by matching 3-1 results on the road.
Entering Friday's contest, Multnomah's Michael Appiah leads the team with five goals and five assists; Jean Mikael ranks second on the team with three apiece in each offensive category.
This season-opening weekend will wrap-up the following night against a Warner Pacific squad that started its season with three straight wins, by a combined 11-1 score. Before hosting the Keelhaulers, the Knights will host Pacific University in the second of their three-game homestand — one that opened with a 4-0 result against Cal Pac colleague Soka University.
Led by Andrew Martinez with three, eight different players found the back of the net for WP, entering Friday's home game vs. Pacific.
A busy start to the season for men's soccer will continue with its third game, played within a five-day timespan, when men's soccer hosts William Jessup in Tuesday's 5 p.m. home opener at Bodnar Field. A quick turnaround awaits CSUM following that event against the Warriors since it will head to Arizona two days later for the team's inaugural Cal Pac games at Benedictine Mesa on Friday the 16th, and Park University Gilbert on Sunday the 18th.
