VALLEJO, Calif. - Following Friday's game at Simpson — one dominated by the Keelhaulers since they controlled action from one end of the field to the other, only to see the Red Hawks capitalize on set pieces — CSUM controlled the pace of play throughout the opening half, and remained poised following a hard-luck deflections that set up the first goal of Sunday morning's game at Bodnar Field.
With CSUM attempting to clear the ball out of its zone, the ball ricocheted off the back of a players' leg back towards the home team's goal. With a Soka player occupying the right patch of turf at the right time, he took fill advantage of a 1-on-1 opportunity to give his team the lead.
Even though men's soccer dominated the second half and out-shot Soka, 9-6, it was the Lions who tacked on a late goal to seal their 3-0 result against Cal Maritime.
Men's soccer's busy week will conclude on Tuesday with the team's fourth game within a seven-day timespan. As was the case on Sunday, action will take place at Bodnar Field with Menlo visiting for a 5:30 p.m. non-conference tilt.
Cal Maritime will enter that game with a 0-4 overall and 0-2 Cal Pac record. Soka wil continue its season at 4-3-1 and 3-1, respectively.
