Keelhaulers blank Lion Angels to close homestand

VALLEJO, Calif. - The Keelhaulers wrapped up their three match homestand as they took on Bethesda University of California at Bodnar Field. The Keelhaulers used a late goal to defeat the Lion Angels 1-0. 

In the first half, the match was played evenly between the two clubs. Cal Maritime outshot Bethesda 8-7 in the half. The final chance for the Keelhaulers to score came in the 44th minute but Jose Diaz's shot was saved by Lion Angels' goalkeeper Gabriel Viera. The two teams went into the halftime break tied at 0-0.

In the second half, the match was played primarily in the Keelhaulers' offensive zone. In the 82nd minute, Jose Diaz took a pass from Luka Bilaver and blasted a kick to the far post for the eventual match winning goal.  The Keelhaulers outshot the Lion Angels 10-2 in the second half.

Fabian Garcia got the win for the Keelhaulers and Gabriel Vieira got the loss for the Lion Angels. The Keelhaulers outshot the Lion Angels 18-9 while the Lion Angels had a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Keelhaulers will start a three-match road trip on Wednesday as they will travel to Oakland to take on Lincoln University (CA). Kickoff is set for noon.
