History abounds as Keelhaulers win second in a row

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Keelhaulers started a three match road trip as they traveled to Alameda to take on Lincoln University (CA) at College of Alameda. Junior Cade Weatherbie set a school record with three goals as the Keelkaulers defeated the Oaklanders 5-2.

The five goals in the match ties the program record. Before today's match, the Keelhaulers had scored five goals on four occasions – the last coming against Providence Christian on October 5, 2023. The Keelhaulers also had four assists which is a tie for second in program history for most assists in a match.

In the first half, the Keelhaulers would get on the scoreboard first just eight minutes in as Weatherbie scored off a Mateo Sanchez pass. In the 16th minute, Jose Diaz scored a goal off a Luka Bilaver pass to extend the Keelhaulers' lead to 2-0. In the 28th minute, Weatherbie scored the eventual match winning goal off a Bilaver pass to give the Keelhaulers a 3-0 lead. In the 30th minute, the Oaklanders would cut into the Keelhaulers' lead as Mohamed El Kaddouri scored to trim the lead to 3-1. The Oaklanders would score again in the 40th minute as Emiliano Garcia-Untalan recorded a tally to trim the Keelhaulers' lead to 3-2. The Keelhaulers took the 3-2 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Sanchez would score off a pass from Diaz in the 48th minute to push the Keelhaulers' lead back to two at 4-2. Weatherbie would score his historic goal in the 63rd minute on a penalty kick for the final tally of the game.

Fabian Garcia got the win for the Keelhaulers and Isaac Castillo got the loss for the Oaklanders. The Keelhaulers outshot the Oaklanders 18-13 and had a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Keelhaulers will head to Southern California for their next two matches. The next match for the Keelhaulers will be on Friday against Stanton University. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
