IRVINE, Calif. – The Keelhaulers traveled to Southern California to continue their three match road trip as they took on Stanton University in non-conference play. The Keelhaulers fell 3-2 to the homestanding Elks.
In the first half, the Elks would get on the scoreboard first. Francesco De Marco would score after a pass from Janik Moller in the first minute to give the Elks a 1-0 lead. The Elks led 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half, the Elks would expand their lead on a Paulo Nakashigue shot after a pass from Matteo Sala. The Elks would score the match-winning goal off the foot of Miguel Nacimento off a De Marco pass in the 58th minute. The Keelhaulers would on the scoreboard in the 64th minute on a Jose Diaz tally. Less than a minute later, the Keelhaulers would score again – this time off the foot of Cade Weatherbie after a pass from Diaz. The final chance for the Keelhaulers to score came in the 83rd minute but Diaz's shot went just high.
Martim Martins got the win for the Elks while Fabian Garcia got the loss for the Keelhaulers. The Elks outshot the Keelhaulers 21-6.
The Keelhaulers will start California Pacific Conference play on Sunday as they take on La Sierra University in Riverside. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
