Pioneers pull away late to defeat Keelhaulers

ANGWIN, Calif. – The Keelhaulers hit the road to Angwin as they started a two match road trip as they took on Pacific Union College. The Pioneers defeated the Keelhaulers, 5-2. 

In the first half, the Pioneers would get on the scoreboard in the 16th minute as Humberto Lujan scored after a pass from Adrian Denoncourt. The Keelhaulers would respond in the 18th minute as Luka Bilaver scored to tie the match at 1-1. The final chance for the Keelhaulers to score in the half came in the 24th minute but Cristian Ramirez's shot was saved by Pioneers' goalie Andres Becerra

In the second half, the Pioneers scored three goals in the first 12 minutes of play. The Keelhaulers would get a goal back in the 61st minute as Cristian Ramirez would score to trim the Pioneers' lead to 4-2. The final chance in the match for the Keelhaulers to score came in the 83rd minute but Jose Diaz's shot was saved by Pioneers' goalie Jake Whitesock. The Pioneers' final tally came in the 88th minute.

Becerra got the win for the Pioneers and Fabian Garcia got the loss for the Keelhaulers. The Pioneers outshot the Keelhaulers 13-8 and the Pioneers had a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Keelhaulers will wrap-up their road trip on Wednesday as they will take on NCAA Division II member Academy of Art in San Francisco. Kickoff is set for noon.
