VALLEJO, Calif. – With five straight games on the road taking place throughout the initial weeks of October, including four versus league opposition, it's no hyperbole to describe this week's home matches as crucial opportunities for Cal Maritime to strengthen its current position atop the Cal Pac standings since the league's postseason tournament will arrive within a blink of an eye.

The marquee matchup of the week will pit two teams with undefeated league records when Stanton visits campus for Sunday afternoon's 1:30 p.m. meeting — the inaugural one between these two programs as Cal Pac counterparts. However, a tough test against Westcliff — it is the two-time defending regular season champion — will take place Friday night, at 7 p.m., out at Bodnar Field.

In its Cal Pac opener, Westcliff lost to Stanton, 3-1, and will face the Keelhaulers before traveling to Angwin Sunday afternoon to face Pacific Union. Stanton's schedule for the week includes a midday matchup against the Pioneers before facing Cal Maritime.

Men's soccer will seek a similar result against the Warriors that took place last Saturday versus Simpson when is faces another  team it has never defeated in program history. With a similar result Friday night, Cal Maritime will remail undefeated entering the final conference event of its season-opening homestand on Sunday.

In addition to the Keelhaulers' attention-grabbing result versus the Red Hawks, Stanton earned its fair share of attention by recording a victory in its first-ever Cal Pac game in program history. That win capped an undefeated month that also included a 5-0 victory against Bethesda, 2-0 result versus Nelson University and a 3-2 triumph at The Master's.

Even this is the first head-to-head game between Stanton and Cal Maritime as conference foes, these teams met last year in Southern California a year ago in a matchup that saw the Elks score three goals before the Keelhaulers roared back to pull within one with 25 minutes left to play. Stanton survived Cal Maritime's furious comeback and escaped the field that day with a win — a result the Keelhaulers would like to avenge in the first game of the season series and the inaugural head-to-head contest in Vallejo.
