Pacific Union pulls away late in back-and-forth battle

VALLEJO, Calif. – Davis Ott scored his second goal of the season and Jose Diaz earned three points by assisting on Ott's goal while scoring his third of the season on a penalty kick with 15 minutes remaining in the first half.

Including Ott's strike, three goals were scored within the first 8:09 seconds of Sunday's designated road game; Pacific Union was the home team because its field was unplayable and forced the Pioneers' home game to take place at Bodnar Field.

Diaz' goal capped a wild back-and-forth half that finished with a 2-2 tie at halftime.

A Pioneers penalty kick was one of two scored within three minutes of one another midway through the second half that ultimately led to a 5-2 win for PUC. 

Eleven of the Keelhaulers' 14 goals were on frame; Diaz finished with seven shots and six attempts on goal, both team-high figures.

Cal Maritime will take its first true conference road trip Thursday to face Simpson in this season's series finale. This key matchup can provide extra breathing room for the Keelhaulers in the conference standings, action in Redding will start at 12 p.m.
