Keelhaulers split day one of UC Merced Invite

MERCED, Calif. - The Cal Maritime men's water polo team split its two contests on day one of the UC Merced Invite Saturday, beating UC Davis 8-4 before falling to Chico State 9-7. 
 
The Keelhaulers face Stanford and San Jose State on Sunday to finish out the tournament. 

Cal Maritime 8, UC Davis 4 

The Keelhaulers ended the game on a 4-0 run and held the Aggies without a goal in the final stanza in an 8-4 win over UC Davis. 
 
Cooper Arnett led the Keelhaulers with three scores and Jake Douglas scored a pair in the fourth quarter as Cal Maritime improved to 4-1 on the season with its second win over UCD this season (Oct. 2, 8-6).

Chico State 9, Cal Maritime 7 

Ian Iverson scored three goals to lead Cal Maritime, but Chico State scored three times in the final two minutes to edge the Keelhaulers in the afternoon session. 

Cooper Arnett handed Cal Maritime a one-goal lead with 4:58 remaining, but the Wildcats responded with three straight goals to take a two-goal advantage. After Arnett pulled the Keelhaulers back within one with 36 seconds remaining, Chico State's Scott Helick sealed the Wildcat win with a score at the 10-second mark.
