VALLEJO, Calif. – Due to circumstances outside its control, UC Santa Cruz was unable to host the UC Santa Cruz Tournament #2 this weekend. Fortunately for teams that were slated to compete this weekend, PEAC Pool is open and available, which means scheduled matches will shift to Vallejo for the Cal Maritime Fall Classic, slated for Alumni Weekend.
Due to a high volume of visitors expected to visit campus throughout the weekend, water polo fans are encouraged to arrive at least 30 minutes early to secure parking in Lot O, the first lot on your right once everyone enters campus, or in Lot M, near the spectator entrance.
Not only is this event the second home tournament of the Keelhaulers' season, this will double as the final tune-up before the Sierra Pacific Championship, slated for October 22 and 23 at PEAC Pool. At stake that weekend is the league's title and automatic berth in the national tournament.
Before Cal Maritime focuses on the postseason, it will open this weekend's action against Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday, and 9:30 a.m., and close the first day of matches with a 5:40 p.m. meeting against Stanford.
Men's water polo will return to PEAC Pool on Sunday for a 10:10 a.m. matchup against Chico State before wrapping up the weekend against Cal in the Fall Classic's 2:50 p.m. finale.
Cal Maritime's clash against Cal provides the team with an opportunity to even the season's series at one apiece since the Golden Bears edged the Keelhaulers, 9-8, on October 1 at the Keelhauler Classic.
