VALLEJO, Calif. – The Matt De Trane era will commence at a familiar location this weekend when Cal Maritime heads to Southern California for its inaugural matches of the 2023 season. Taking place in Malibu at Pepperdine, Coach De Trane's alma mater, the Keelhaulers will face the Waves on Sunday at noon before ending its road trip with a 2:30 p.m. neutral match against Cal State Fullerton.
Only the Keelhaulers' inaugural match of the season is available to watch on ESPN+ with a valid subscription to the service; live stats are available for non-conference contests against the Waves and Titans.
By opening the season against a pair of Division I foes, CSUM will not face a tougher test this year and enjoy an opportunity to build camaraderie and team chemistry throughout the longest road trip of the season.
The team will remain local for its next set of matches, once everyone returns to Vallejo, since the Keelhaulers will host the Cal Pac Round Robin on September 24 and the CWPA Tournament from October 7-8 before competing in an official match outside of PEAC Pool.
As the year continues, CSUM will visit San José State for separate tournaments on October 14-15 and 21-22 before heading to UC Merced for the NAIA Finals, a three-day postseason tournament slated for November 10-12.
Leading up to its weekend contest against the Keelhaulers, Pepperdine will host Westcliff and No. 11 UC Santa Barbara on Thursday. Entering its packed weekend, the Waves are coming off a narrow 10-9 home loss to No. 1-ranked Cal, a result that snapped a season-opening five-match win streak.
Cal State Fullerton will look to extend its current four-match winning streak with Saturday's home dual versus Chapman before facing the Keelhaulers less than 20 hours later.
After battling Cal Maritime, the Titans will conclude their weekend against Pepperdine.
