VALLEJO, Calif. – Currently organized as an emerging sport within the conference, Cal Maritime will host the inaugural Cal Pac men's water polo-related event at PEAC Pool when UC Merced and Westcliff visit Vallejo, California, to participate in the Cal Pac Round Robin.

Including the host Keelhaulers, the Bobcats and Warriors will take turns battling one another throughout Sunday's action, beginning with a local matchup between CSUM and UCM slated for 10 a.m. Men's water polo will host a neutral-site matchup between UC Merced and Westcliff at 12:30 p.m., following by the event's 3 p.m. finale involving Cal Maritime and WU.

With Cal Pac officials in the process of officially sponsoring the sport, in addition to women's water polo, the Keelhaulers will compete in two conferences throughout the fall men's water polo season.

In addition to competing as a Cal Pac program, the Keelhaulers will participate in two Collegiate Water Polo Association-related tournaments throughout the upcoming weeks.

Since San José State was unable to host a CWPA event this fall, due to circumstances out of its control, Cal Maritime is the new site for two tournaments slated throughout the month of October: the CWPA Tournament #1 (Oct. 7-8) and Sierra Pacific Division Championship (Oct. 14-15).

All three upcoming tournaments will help CSUM prepare for November's NAIA Finals, hosted by UC Merced from November 10-12.

Cal Maritime will enter the Cal Pac Round Robin after opening its season last weekend in Malibu against a pair of Division I foes, Pepperdine and Cal State Fullerton. After falling to the Waves in their season opener, the Keelhaulers rebounded by providing a stiff test to the Titans — a team playing its first match of the day compared to a CSUM squad competing in its second, and final contest of the afternoon — in a competitive match that saw them remain within striking distance of the Titans until the final minutes of the fourth period.

Highlighted by four victories out of six matches that took place in late August at the Merced College Tournament, and a four-match win streak that started at the event and carried over the following week in Fresno, UC Merced will arrive to PEAC Pool with a 6-6 overall record.

This is the first pair of matches for the Bobcats since the Aggie Invite, which took place on September 9 and 10; they dropped all three matches played throughout the weekend against West Valley College, San José State and UC Davis.

The upcoming weekend is a busy one for UC Merced since it will return to Fresno on Saturday for a non-conference match against Fresno Pacific.

Westcliff will also face the Firebirds on Saturday before heading to Vallejo for Sunday's slate and enter the weekend at 2-6 on the season.

As was the case with the Keelhaulers, the Warriors played a pair of matches last weekend when they visited Tempe, Arizona, to compete in the Arizona State Classic.

Following a 20-1 victory against the host Sun Devils, WU narrowly fell to OUAZ, 18-14, the next day before returning home to Irvine.

Sunday's action will provide all three teams with a sneak peek at one another since everyone will reconvene in early November in Merced at the NAIA Finals.
