Anastasi, Hodges lead Cal Maritime at Warrior Invite

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Nora Anastasi and Trevor Hodges were the first to finish for Cal Maritime's men's and women's cross country teams at Saturday's Warrior Invite, which took place at William Jessup's on-campus course. In its final tune-up before the November 1 Cal Pac Conference championships, both Keelhauler squads finished 10th.

Finishing second for the women behind Anastasi and her time of 22:03.7 was Karla Gomez, who ran the 5k course in 22:59. Safari Frisell was the next Keelhauler harrier to finish as she posted a time of 23:24.2.

With his time of 28.28.7, Hodges just edged teammate Isaiah Sulivan who crossed the line three seconds later. Completing Cal Maritime's top three was Nick Yarusso, he completed the 8k course with a time of 28.44.0.

"We love running this race because, traditionally, this is a fast course," said head coach Jeff Ward. "I like to set up our schedule each year with a hard course right off the bat and work our way towards this meet because this is a fast course which leads to quick times."

Even though William Jessup changed courses between the 2019 and 2020 seasons, the Keelhaulers still view this race as a great way to prep for next week's season-ending league meet.

"Our runners gain confidence as the season progresses and we are able to build momentum entering the conference championships." Added Ward, "I think our spirit and confidence is high, which is right where we want it heading into the conference championship."

Cal Maritime will head to Fresno on November 1 to compete in the league's postseason meet.
