Bio

Sports are important in my life not merely because they provide great exercise and a way to be competitive and have fun, but because they instill a sense of teamwork. Being on a team is the best part of playing sports, and the lessons learned from being part of a team translate into other aspects of my life. The idea that my actions and choices affect others besides myself is one of these instrumental lessons. It is great to belong to something larger than myself, and share that feeling of camaraderie with my teammates.

My most memorable sports achievement was when I was voted most inspirational by my high school swim team. Even though I was never the best athlete, I felt as though this award was an affirmation that I was a key member of the team and that others looked up to me. This helped change me as an athlete and individual because it showed me how important it is to have a mentor and someone who inspires you. It also demonstrated to me that in order to be a role model for someone else, you don't have to be the best athlete or the most accomplished, but instead have the right mindset. This means being encouraging to others, valuing teamwork and displaying good sportsmanship.
