Follow Team USA at Cal Maritime
Welcome Aboard
Long-time fans of Cal Maritime are already familiar with our long-standing Follow the Voyage (FTV) blog on the campus website. Every summer, FTV provides regular reports from Cal Maritime's 500-foot Training Ship Golden Bear (TSGB) as Academy cadets operate the ship on the waters of the Pacific during our summer-long training cruises.
But this is a very unique journey. Cal Maritime's Kennedy Cup victory in the 2009 National Collegiate Offshore Sailing championship has earned us the honor of serving as Team USA in the 2010 Student Yachting World Cup (SYWC).
This year's World Cup will take place in La Rochelle, on France's western Atlantic coast from October 23-29. (Practice day the 23rd and start of competition the 24th)
In 30 years, only one American team (Rhode Island in 1990) has ever won. We're obviously hoping to be the second, and we're even more excited to be the first team from the West Coast to represent the U.S. in the SYWC.
So, welcome aboard. Let us show you around "the boat" as it were, and get you settled in as you join us on this exciting journey.

Support TeamUSA: While representing the U.S. in the 2010 SYWC (and as the first West Coast entry to compete) is a great honor, participation in the Regatta is not something on our regular calendar or in our regular athletic budget. Getting a team of ten students and two coaches to France and back and paying for all their food and lodging, race fees and other costs will be substantial and that is why we are asking you to consider a contribution to help support the team. We're reaching out to everyone….faculty, staff, students, alumni, friends, friends of sailing and supporters of Cal Maritime to ask for your help.
