Keelhaulers Finish Third in PCCSC Match-Race Championship
The Keelhaulers were in a three-way tie for first with Stanford and UC Santa Barbara at the end of day one.
Conditions were light to start day two, but halfway through the round robin the breeze picked up from the northwest and the racing heated up. Cal Martime lost a race to the University of Hawaii on day two which knocked them out of the three-way tie, and UCSB would go on to beat Stanford in a "sail off" to break the tie and claim victory.
Stanford earned the PCCSC berth to Match-Race Nationals.
Up next: The Keelhaulers will travel to the University of Rhode Island for a shot at the Moody Trophy, and then return to the bay area for a race hosted by UC Berkeley at the Treasure Island Sailing Center on October, 14-15. The races are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and fans and alumni are encouraged to come as the race is fully visible from the shore. Cal Maritime will have a tent for Keelhauler supporters and a taco truck is on site for concessions.
